Author Guidelines

The Brazilian Review of Regional and Urban Studies is a quarterly publication journal. The author interested in publishing their article must submit it for evaluation according to the norms of the journal.

1. The journal does not charge submission and/or evaluation fees, nor does it remunerate authors and referees.

2. Submission of an article implies that the work is original and has not been published previously (except for publication in the form of an abstract, publication as an academic thesis, publication as an electronic preprint). The articles are checked by the originality detection service Crossref Similarity Check. The article will be rejected if a condition that can be characterized as plagiarism or self-plagiarism is verified. Submission of an article implies that the work is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere.

3. Papers can be submitted in one of the following languages: Portuguese and English.

4. The texts submitted are initially examined by the Editors, who assess whether the theme and theoretical or empirical approach are in line with the journal's focus and its quality requirements, as well as the publication standards described below. At this stage, the article may be rejected.

5. After the previous examination by the Editors, the work is sent to the referees following the double-blind peer review system, meaning that authors and referees are not identified at any stage of the evaluation. Therefore, before submitting the file, delete the name(s) of the author(s) of the submitted work. The decision of the referees is recorded in evaluation reports, which are sent to the authors, keeping the referees’ names confidential.

6. Each article may have a maximum of five (5) authors.

7. Authors have the right to submit two (2) articles per year to RBERU, either as the first author or as a co-author.

8. Page configurations: A4 page size, formatted in single spacing, margins of 2 cm, font 12, Times New Roman, in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or PDF formats, limited to 20 pages, including footnotes, references, and attachments.

9. Articles must be present, in Portuguese and in English: title; abstract with a maximum of 200 words; three keywords, and JEL Classification.

10. The works must be formatted according to the norms of ABNT – the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms. Bibliographical citations should be indicated in the text itself, containing in parentheses the author's surname, year of publication, and, if applicable, the cited page number. For example: "According to Leontief (1953: 30), [...]" or "(LEONTIEF, 1953: 39)". Footnotes should be avoided and, if necessary, their use is to be parsimonious and objective, containing only supplementary information to the text.

11. The complete references should be gathered at the end of the text in alphabetical order.

Example:

Isard, W. (1983). Methods of Interregional and Regional Analysis. United Kingdom: Ashgate.

Perobelli, F. S.; Ferreira, P. G. C.; Faria, W. R. (2007). Análise de Convergência Espacial no Estado de Minas Gerais: 1975-2003. Revista Brasileira de Estudos Regionais e Urbanos, 1(1): 1-25.

12. Mathematical formulas and footnotes should be numbered sequentially.

13. Illustrations – tables and figures (such as charts, graphs, and maps) - should be numbered and have legends. Always indicate the source of the illustrations. If composed by the author, write: "Source: Own elaboration".

14. It is the responsibility of the author to provide proofreading and text revision of the work, as well as the formatting of the references according to ABNT norms. This must be done before the submission of the work for evaluation.

15. Submissions should be made online. To start the process, you have to register on the main page of the journal, clicking on REGISTRATION. In this, check "Author: Can submit to the journal" (last option of the form). After registration, access the website with your login and password, and click on AUTHOR. Then, follow the steps indicated by the system for submission. Through this website, you can follow the progress of your article within the editorial process.

16. When submitting the article on the website, the author must complete the submission metadata for each author, with full name(s), e-mail, institution/affiliation, biographical summary, title, abstract and keywords, and works in Portuguese.

17. All authors and co-authors must have an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor) identifier. The registration can be made free of charge at https://orcid.org.

18. If the article is recommended for publication with "Mandatory Corrections", the authors will have 30 days to present the modified version and a response letter to the referees. It should state the adjustments made to the text clearly and objectively, including their location (paragraph and page). Articles that do not meet this deadline will be archived and, if they are submitted again, they will have to restart the evaluation process and follow the journal's guidelines.
