Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze by sector the income differentials between genders in the Rio Grande do Sul state. For this purpose, using data from the Annual Report of Social Information (RAIS) for the years 2012 to 2018, the Oaxaca (1973) and Blinder (1973) and the Ñopo (2008) decompositions are estimated, in order to verify the existence or not of a possible income differential between women and men in the Rio Grande do Sul labor market, as well as the magnitude of this probable gap. The results indicate the presence of income discrimination in the referred market in favor of men in all analyzed sectors. In addition, it is observed that if the productive attributes determined the salary standard, women would earn more than men, evidence that is verified in both decompositions. Finally, the importance of verifying the results carried out from the parametric (Oaxaca-Blinder) and non-parametric (Ñopo) approaches is highlighted.
