The present work uses a multilevel Bayesian model to estimate the effect of the endowment of cultural and natural heritage on the number of foreign tourists received by 17 Brazilian states in the years 2014, 2016 and 2019. The results found suggest that the certification of heritage by national and international bodies can, even unintentionally or indirectly, serve as a quality signal for potential tourists and, in this way, increase the flow of international tourists received by a given region.
