Abstract

Brazil has reached the world as one of the largest producers and exporters of beef. However, Brazilian cattle farming has several production systems and, due to disparities in these methods, productivity levels are heterogeneous among the regions of the country. These production differences are caused by a series of factors, such as land ownership, divergence of productive capital, soil fertility, climate and, mainly, the type of technology used. In this case, this study aims to carry out a spatial assessment of the beef production chain in Brazil. Thus, a synthetic indicator that considers aspects of the bovine production chain was constructed and an exploratory data analysis was carried out. From this strategy, it was possible to observe the spatial of the beef production chain as well as the spatial displacement between 2006 and 2017 in terms of the characteristics of the establishments, commercialization potential, supply potential and beneficiation potential, as well as in terms of the indicator synthesis. Finally, the strengthening of the chain in the North region stands out, mainly in the State of Pará, as well as a weakening of the production chain in the South region from the spatial exploratory analysis in the two years.
