SOCIOECONOMIC STRUCTURE, COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND REGIONAL PATTERN: EVALUATING THE DISPARITIES OF ZONA DA MATA OF MINAS GERAIS STATE IN 2010

Abstract

Socioeconomic structure and spatial dependence are factors that can define the relative position of urban centers and the unequal pattern within a region. They are useful for the initial phase of localized regional policies. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristic factors of municipalities located in the Zona da Mata for the year of 2010. For this purpose, we applied exploratory statistical techniques and extracted three latent dimensions, such as "Typical development", "Quality of life" and "Market and Services". As it was verified the presence of spatial effects in the three dimensions, including in a bivariate form, this result indicates that the effects of the dimension "Typical development" can be overspread to the polarized municipalities, which does not occur with the dimension "Market and Services". The main findings of these applications indicated the existence of regional disparities and a dependency structure between polarizing and polarized municipalities, especially in relation to services.
