CRIME IN BORDER AREAS: THE CASE OF MINAS GERAIS
Keywords:
Crime, Convergence, Spatial econometrics, Minas GeraisAbstract
In recent years, crime has spread throughout Brazil, suggesting the hypothesis of a convergence of crime rates. In turn, Minas Gerais is influenced by neighboring states through its vast borders. The present work aims to analyze if the edge effect affects the convergence of crime rates between Minas Gerais and its contiguous states at the microregional level for the years 1991 and 2010. The results indicate that there is a conditional convergence of crime rates for the state of Minas Gerais.
